Michigan received their 17th verbal commitment of the 2012 class from Nashville, TN OL Blake Bars. Bars is the 4th Offensive lineman in the class, joining Caleb Stacey, Ben Braden, and Erik Magnuson. Stacey is the only prospect listed as a Guard or Center. There are also a few really good prospects that think highly of Michigan, so my guess is Bars and Braden switch to the interior at some point.
As for Bars, he is listed as the 34th best OT and a 4-star by Rivals.com, and the 38th best OT and a 3-star to Scout.com. His offer list is much more impressive than his rankings however. He turned down Florida, LSU, Penn State, and South Carolina in addition to lower level schools. He also comes from an athletic family. His father and uncle played at Notre Dame, his grandfather was a Spartan, and his brother is currently a DE at Penn State.
As I said earlier, this class is extraordinarily big for June. And there are a couple prospects that could commit at any second, so I’m guessing Bars wanted to secure his place in this class. Despite my beliefs that Michigan would only take 18-20, it is being said that the class will be around 26. That means there is more room for Hoke to stock up on OL and DL prospects. I will begin working on a new overview sometime this week.
Congrats Blake, and Go Blue!
